Impacted by a death by suspected suicide? Huarahi Ora and Aoake te Rā are available to help

"After a death by suspected suicide, many are left in the dark. Huarahi Ora exists to guide individuals and whānau through this early stage with care, compassion, and coordination, just as Tāne-nui-a-Rangi climbed through the layers of darkness to bring light, knowledge, and hope back to the world."

Huarahi Ora is:

  • Available to assess your needs and connect you to the right cultural, clinical, or community-based services 

  • Rooted in kaupapa Māori values but available and inclusive to all people living in Aotearoa 

  • Available to anyone impacted by a suspected suicide - including whānau, friends, colleagues, responders, those who discovered the person, and so on 

  • Free to use 

You can speak with your doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or practice nurse about being referred to Huarahi Ora, or you can self-refer by calling 0800 437 009. 

"Aoake te Rā means ‘a new sun rises' - the emerging light being a symbol of hope as whānau adapt to their loss."

Aoake te Rā is: 

  • Available to provide brief therapeutic support (6 hours/sessions) to all ages

  • Available to anyone impacted by suicide - including whānau, friends, colleagues, discoverers, and so on 

  • Available face-to-face, online, over the phone, or a combination of these 

  • Free to use
