Applications open for LeasureCard Fund - to help reduce financial barriers to sport and recreation

What is the LeisureCard Fund? 

Me Heke Ki Pōneke / Wellington City Council have established the LeisureCard Fund to help people living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington to be more active by reducing financial barriers to sport and recreation. 

Individuals can apply for up to $500.00 per year to help them access sport or recreation activities.

You can apply to the fund to help cover costs such as: 

  • Membership / club fees

  • Subscription fees 

  • Training / class fees (including for activities such as dance classes) 

  • Required gear (e.g. footwear) 

Who is eligible to apply for the LeisureCard Fund? 

You can apply on behalf of yourself or your tamaiti (child) / tamariki (children).

To be eligible an individual must: 

  • Live in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington City, and

  • Be unable to participate in sport or recreation activities due to the cost, and 

  • Hold a LeisureCard or a Community Services Card 

Applications are open to all ages, but priority will be given to applicants aged 5 - 24 years

  • A parent or legal guardian must apply on behalf of tamariki and rangatahi aged under 18 years 

  • A sponsor who knows the applicant's situation must support the application - e.g. a teacher, club coach, social worker, LeisureCard partner, etc.
